Admission requirements
University degree in Biology, Hydrology, Water management or in a related study course, as well as
• At least 20 credit points from courses in ecology, evolution, and environmental protection, e.g., limnology, terrestrial and aquatic ecology, soil science, environmental management, ecotoxicology,
• At least 20 credit points from courses in foundations of biology or hydrosciences, especially zoology, botany, microbiology, molecular biology or hydrology, water resources and material flow management, and
• At least 15 credit points from courses in the mathematics and natural sciences subjects mathematics, physics and chemistry
• A further requirement is proficiency in the English language at the B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is also required. For applicants whose native language is not English, this level must be verified by presenting a certificate for English at the 12th or 13th grade level of the German Abitur system or, alternatively, by presenting the results of a completed language test offered internationally (preferably IELTS: 6.5, TOEFL: 550 points).
Aptitude assessment procedure
The participation in an aptitude assessment or selection procedure is a prerequisite for enrollment in this degree program. Please note that the deadline for submitting an application may be earlier than the application deadlines for the degree program (see above under application deadlines). Notes on the application process
If, at the time of application, proof of the first degree qualifying the applicant for a profession is not yet available, the application will be considered under the precondition that 80% of the credit points attainable for the degree have already been achieved based on completed module examinations or the final thesis and the colloquium (if applicable). A certification from the awarding institute of higher education (examination office) serves as proof of the above-mentioned academic achievements. General information about the degree program
This programme focuses on the fields of water and natural resources management as well as engineering. It addresses particularly students from developing and transitional countries due to the specific problems in water management occurring there, which are subject of a number of modules. Furthermore, the participants acquire and expand their professional and methodological qualifications.
The programme addresses basic techniques of scientific research, experimental research methods and system-analytical processes for the analysis of observational data and for the planning and evaluation of laboratory and field experiments. Furthermore, the programme includes methodological fundamentals of ecotoxicology, key techniques for determining water quality, a broad introduction to species, as well as an in-depth treatment of ecological relationships.
