General information about the degree program
The study of history imparts competences, which enable students to recognize historical questions and problems with scientific methods, analyse them, find solutions, and consider alternative reconstructions. The course of study is embedded in a rich cultural and scientific environment – both in Dresden and internationally, thanks to international and interdisciplinary research networks – and thus offers a suitable framework for individual specialisations regarding content, methods, and professional work.
The core area consists of several modules (among them an introductory module, basic and advanced modules on the pre-modern and the modern age), the bachelor´’s thesis, and a colloquium. It is complemented with courses in one or two supplementary areas and courses in general aptitudes. Furthermore, students are expected to complete a six-week internship. Students also have to prove their knowledge of three foreign languages, among them English and Latin.
