The support and promotion of young academic is of high importance to TU Dresden. Apart from an outstanding research environment, tailor-made support services during the different phases of an academic career are provided.
PhDs and Postdocs
The Graduate Academy (GA) is the central point of contact for junior researchers offering a broad spectrum of services:
- Individual counselling, before, during and after the doctoral degree with qualification opportunities designed specifically for junior researchers
- Funding programmes, e.g. travel allowances and short-term scholarships
- events providing the opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange and networking.
PhD supervisors can also benefit from the GA services
Habilitation
The habilitation is an additional academic qualification level that is traditionally engrained in the German university system. Regardless of the diversification of the academic career paths, today it still bears a decisive significance for the access to a professorship in many disciplines.
Junior Research Group Leader
Independent Junior Research Group Leader at the TU Dresden as well as from partner institutions of DRESDEN-concept can submit their application to the university management for the award of TUD Young Investigator status (YI). This time limited status allows a close connection to faculty life, e.g. as an assessor or examiner in doctoral procedures, the possibility of gaining teaching experience as well as benefitting from specifically designed qualification offers regarding mentoring or appointment negotiations.
