The worldwide day of action on 17 May, the Day Against Homophobia, Bisexuality, Inter- and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), draws attention to the violence and discrimination against queer people that still occurs on a daily basis. The day is a reminder of the 17th of May 1990, when homosexuality was removed from the ICD-10 diagnosis code and thus officially no longer considered an illness.

TU Dresden has been participating in the day of action since 2021. In that year, the Progressive Pride Flag was hoisted for the first time as a sign of appreciation for gender and sexual diversity.

This year, TU Dresden is again offering spaces for exchange, networking and awareness-raising.  Trans*, inter, non-binary and agender people have the opportunity to take part in a self-assertion and empowerment course. Queer research topics and queer research will be made visible in the QueerScience lecture panel.

Fay Uhlmann, queer peer counsellor and student senator at the TU-Dresden, emphasises the relevance of the day of action at the TU-Dresden: "Especially in the current discourse about the Self-Determination Act, which is characterised by transphobia, and the discrimination against queer parents that still exists, it is particularly important that the TU-Dresden sends a strong signal against any queer hostility by participating in IDAHOBIT. In this way, the university also commits itself to participating in the dismantling of existing discriminations against queer people."
