First presentation of sTUDies 3.0 teaching strategy
The university public was invited to comment on the first draft of the sTUDies 3.0 teaching strategy until the beginning of June 2024. More than 100 colleagues from different areas and departments accepted the personal invitation from the Vice-Rectorate Academic Affairs and critically commented on the draft in the collaborative writing program Overleaf .
The comments from the university public related both to the implementation of the measures and to the responsibilities already listed in the draft. The feedback loop also showed that some of the 34 action plans in the teaching strategy address issues that can be dealt with immediately.
"All action plans are based on ideas from TUD members, which were further developed in the teaching strategy working groups and thus supplemented with additional perspectives," says Prof. Michael Kobel, Vice-Rector Academic Affairs. "We didn't come up with the measures alone in the Vice-Rectorate Education, but they were created through the active cooperation of many of our colleagues. I would like to express my sincere thanks for this."
Following the comment phase, the draft was presented to the Extended University Executive Board for the first time in July. Of the action plans, the following were prioritized by the Extended University Executive Board:
- Development of a TUD-wide set of interdisciplinary core competencies, as well as teaching and curricular integration of a core competency set
- Creating scope for the development of teaching and learning formats (legal framework conditions)
- Understanding the concept of research-oriented teaching at TU Dresden, as well as strengthening and raising awareness of research-oriented teaching, also with the involvement of DDc
- Definition of digital learning culture
- Curricular integration of interdisciplinary teaching and learning formats
- Consideration of lifelong learning in the subject areas of core competencies and digital learning culture
"We aim to develop teaching step by step and establish it as a unique selling point and performance area of TU Dresden that supports our cutting-edge research," says the Vice-Rector Academic Affairs, summarizing the idea behind the teaching strategy.
The teaching strategy is currently being finalized as a document by the teaching strategy team. A short version is also being developed to introduce as many interested parties as possible to the topic. The updated draft will now be presented to the Teaching Strategy Committee in order to prepare a resolution recommendation for the Senate so that implementation of the measures can begin.
