New series of events "GFF meets ..." launched at the Cube
On March 22, 2023, our new event series "GFF meets ..." started. The kick-off event was designed by one of the teaching award winners of the past academic year, Dr. Alejandro de Castro Mazarro.
Titled "From Efficiency to Sufficiency of Cities: Planning Steps for a Sustainable Transformation," he provided an overview of theoretical trends and current debates in the topic area of sustainable building. What is architecture's response to the climate crisis? According to the mainstream of architectural culture, it seems to be a mix of technological solutions and climate-friendly lifestyles. However, on the fringes of academic discourse, a larger consensus is growing that the logic of the entire building sector needs to be changed-from an urbanization narrative based on the development of ever more advanced technologies to one based on the absolute reduction of resource consumption. The presentation described the environmental principles of both positions and highlighted some initial examples of sufficiency-oriented architectural and urban interventions aimed at both climate resilience and climate justice.
