Felipe Santos-Marquez took part in a summer program at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford
Felipe Felipe Santos-Marquez from the Chair of Economics, esp. International Economics took part in a 3-week summer program at the University of Oxford recently. In a short interview he reports about this research stay.
Where and how long was the summer program?
It was a 3-week program, from July 17th until August 4th. It was an intensive AI coursework program at Lady Margaret Hall (LMH), University of Oxford.
What was the program about?
It was about advanced applications of neural networks and deep learning. More specifically, deep learning methods related to Generative Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning, and Graph Neural Networks.
What can you tell us about your stay in Oxford?
It was my first time in Oxford, and I very much enjoyed being in the city. The university campus is beautiful, and it was super nice to run by the river and at one of the city’s green spaces. It was also lovely to meet and collaborate with people from all over the world. In total, people from over 30 different countries were at LMH.
What experiences do you take back to Dresden? Any other words?
First of all, being mindful of this great opportunity and thankful to the Chair, the Graduate Academy, the Association of Friends and Sponsors of TU Dresden (GFF), and TU Dresden for the support to take part in this program. Also, there was so much content in the program that I need time to process it all. Moreover, I hope to pass on to the TU community some of the knowledge I gained from the course; for instance, I will teach a two-day introductory course on deep learning in Python at TU in the coming winter semester. Lastly, and not academic-related, during my stay in Oxford, it was very nice to learn how to play squash and restart playing chess after so many years.
