MTC@TUD
Making Teachers Confident supports student teachers at the TU Dresden from the start of their studies to the transition into their professional future, helping them to successfully master their studies and to develop personally. With various offers and formats, bridges are built to overcome organizational hurdles, to specifically promote key competencies for the studies and the profession, and to develop realistic expectations of oneself, the studies, and the professional career.
Vision of MTC@TUD
Through needs-oriented support, MTC aims to positively influence the academic success of student teachers and increase it overall. The focus is on active support and transparent design of the transitions between school and university as well as university and professional future, with the help of study-accompanying workshops, exchange formats, qualification and consulting offers as well as video and audio formats. This contributes to a holistic, practice-oriented understanding of teacher education.
Transition from school to university
For those interested in studying, there is a first insight into everyday life as a student:r in the form of short audio sequences. Student teachers talk about their time at university on a variety of topics. With each (further) episode, the ZLSB podcast offers an insight into the diverse tasks and areas at the Center for Teacher Education and Educational Research (ZLSB).
Against the background of an increasingly heterogeneous student body, the different prerequisites with which students start their teacher training and the organizational complexity of the teacher training program at the TU Dresden, Making Teachers Confident has established a tutoring program. Qualified tutors, who themselves study teaching, offer tutorials at the beginning of their studies and during the first two semesters. In the initial phase of the program, the tutoring focuses on organizational aspects, orientation in the counseling system, and the social and professional arrival at the TU Dresden. During the semester, various tutorials are offered on academic writing, time management for targeted exam preparation, getting to know and trying out various methods, and organizing everyday study life, so that students can specifically acquire and further develop important key competencies for their studies.
Tutor training
The training prepares the prospective tutors for their future work and offers them the opportunity to exchange ideas with experts from different areas of teacher education. The focus is on the following topics:
- The role as a tutor
- Moderating and leading groups
- Planning workshops
- Giving and taking feedback
- Preparing introductory/orientation tutorials
- Interview techniques for advising first-year students
Transition from university to professional future
In the course of their studies, student teachers can inform themselves in workshops, information events and exchange formats about the many opportunities they have both during and after their studies. In addition, they have the opportunity to reflect on their strengths and weaknesses in various settings and to work specifically on their teacher personality. Involved in these formats are various actors of the ZLSB, such as seconded teachers, alumni, the State Office for Schools and Education as well as the actors of Perspekive Schule auf dem Land and their partner schools.
