Structure of Programm
The M.A. “Applied Media Research” includes a core and a focus area. The standard period of study lasts four semesters and consists of (in additional to attendance) the independent study, curated (if needed) opportunities for real-world practice, and the master’s exam (see also exam regulations, § 4). It is not possible to finish the master’s extra occupationally.
Building upon communication science fundamentals about the mechanics of media and publicness and the essentials of empirical social sciences, the program focuses on these four core points:
- media content research,
- media and public research,
- market and public opinion research,
- conception and controlling of communication measures.
During the program, special emphasis is placed upon managing empirical projects and critical discussing current developments in research and communication.
You can find the specific description of the module for the core and focus areas in the program documents on the website for the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
In the first week of the program, there will be a bridge course for preparing students for their studies in the “Applied Media Research” program. In the bridge course, fundamental methodological and statistical techniques will be explained. The goal is to communicate a coherent standard of knowledge to all master’s students to help them get off to a great start.
