If the certificate is not yet available at the time of the application, the applicant can nevertheless be considered if 80% of the examination credits necessary for graduation have already be successfully presented. As proof of this, the applicant can present a corresponding, original, written confirmation from the university or an officially certified copy. This confirmation should also contain a calculated, tentative average grade, based on the already-completed examinations. (Note: The Abitur certificate is not necessary as a certified copy, if you are using that to prove foreign language knowledge, for example; see other examples below)
- proof of knowledge of social scientific research methodology or statistics, learn in the earlier studies (in particular: quantitative methods of examination and content analysis). Normally, such proof is achieved through the transcript of records or the diploma supplement. These documents contain previous modules and their grades. The same goes for proof of general aptitude for the program “Applied Media Research”, i.e. knowledge in the field of communication sciences (or related disciplines), which must also be proven. Note: For relevant attended modules, it is advisable to enclose the module descriptions in the application.
- proof of English speaking skills of Level B2, i.e. through a corresponding certificate or the Abitur certificate (certified copy; B2 is consistent with the level of English taught in the 12th or 13th grade).
- a personal statement. In 1-2 pages, this should explain applicants reasons for applying for the M.A. “Applied Media Research”. To that end, special emphasis should be placed on why the student belongs in the program, based on their interests and career goals. Likewise, aptitude and capabilities can be established through previous academic education and internships or through other related activities.
- tabular curriculum vitae (Should internships or other similar activities be mentioned in the curriculum vitae or personal statement, please include copies of written confirmations of internships or work.)
