Research and Transferprojects at JoDDiD
While political education in schools has a well-developed academic infrastructure, there are virtually no positions available at universities for extracurricular political youth and adult education. The positions institutionalized in the late 1970s and 80s were almost without exception rededicated for other purposes or not reoccupied and the political didactics professorships are often more than fully occupied with their tasks in the field of training and supporting teachers. One might think that those active in the field of extracurricular political youth and adult education have other concerns.
First and foremost, they do not have a professor to scrutinize their work. On closer inspection, however, this gap poses a serious problem, as there is hardly any place where the knowledge developed in this field can be systematically evaluated and thus secured in the long term. In other words: while we know a lot about political education processes in the institution of school, there is a lack of this knowledge and research in relation to extracurricular political youth and adult education. JoDDiD alone will not be able to close this gap. However, we begin to do so in the federal state of Saxony.
Research at the JoDDiD
JoDDiD pursues an integrative research concept that does not rely solely on the implementation of proven studies, but assumes that important research data can be collected in all of the research center's work processes. One example: We offer those active in the field of extracurricular political youth and adult education a space for discussion in which challenges and problems in the areas of activity can be discussed and worked on. In this context, however, it is inevitable that new insights into these challenges and problems will be condensed into findings at the research center, which can also be made visible in anonymized form.
