On April 1st 2022 Stephan Speier has started his new position as director and chair of the Institute of Physiology of the Medical Faculty Dresden (https://tu-dresden.de/med/mf/phy). As a result the Islet Cell Physiology Research Group is now a collaborative effort between the PLID and the Institute of Physiology.

Great news!! The Xenotransplanation Research Collaborative Center was renewed for another 4 years by the German Research Foundation (DFG). In the new funding period our project will continue our work to find the optimal source for islet xenotransplantation.

Together with the Group of Martin Gotthardt from Nijmegen we have just published an exciting study on the GLP-1 receptor as target for clinical noninvasive imaging of beta cell mass.

We are excited to be part of a new NIH award with our partners at theUniversity of Florida (total funds ca. 1.9 million USD) for our jointstudy on human pancreas heterogeneity in type 1 diabetes. We are verymuch looking forward to this exciting collaboration.
