Admission requirements
In order to be accepted into the programme, you must have obtained a first university degree that qualifies you for a profession or a degree or qualification from a university or state/state-approved university of cooperative education that is recognised in Germany in the field of practical philosophy or in the social sciences or economics with at least 180 ECTS, or in a field with a focus on practical philosophy, social science or economics with at least 30 ECTS.
A further requirement is proficiency in the English language at the B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages by presenting a certificate for a completed language test, in particular the paper-based TOEFL test, the computer-based TOEFL test, the internet-based TOEFL test or IELTS test. English native speakers are exempt, provided they submit their high-school leaving certificate.
German language requirements
International applicants and German applicants with a foreign university entrance qualification are kindly advised to read the requirements for German-language courses.
Notes on the application process
If, at the time of application, proof of the first degree qualifying the applicant for a profession is not yet available, the application will be considered under the precondition that 80% of the credit points attainable for the degree have already been achieved based on completed module examinations or the final thesis and the colloquium (if applicable). A certification from the awarding institute of higher education (examination office) serves as proof of the above-mentioned academic achievements. You can find the appropriate form on the Admissions Office website.
General information about the degree program
This Master’s degree program qualifies students to handle ethical and social challenges in the context of management responsibility as understood from a holistic point of view.
At TU Dresden’s International Institute (IHI), we offer a comprehensive Master’s degree program that concentrates on responsible management practices with a view to business ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Our curriculum aims to prepare our students for the ethical and social challenges of the business world and emphasizes the importance of sustainable business practices that take into account economic, social and ecological factors.
Our program covers a broad spectrum of topics in the areas of economics, ethics and ecology. Our courses provide students with a deepened understanding for the role companies have in society and their responsibility to act ethically and sustainably. Furthermore, students will obtain valuable knowledge in the most critical management functions, such as strategic planning, organization, corporate leadership, corporate governance, personnel management and business management.
In addition to the compulsory modules, our program features 11 elective compulsory subjects, from which students are free to choose six. This offers the opportunity for students to specialize in areas such as sustainable resource management, social and environmental reporting, social theory, intercultural communication and advanced empirical methods.
At IHI, we would like to offer you an ambitious and challenging degree program that helps you to become an economic leader who acts ethically and responsibly. With us, you can join the next generation of responsible managers!

Occupational fields
Without a doubt, potential occupational fields depend on your academic background and the concentrations you choose. Depending on these factors, you could have access to a number of occupations in various sectors. For example, people with a business administration or finance background can qualify for a job in consulting or in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) at banks or investment funds, while those with an ecological concentration may choose a career in sustainability consulting.
Compliance departments – especially at multinational companies – offer additional opportunities for people with expertise in law, ethics or regulation. Likewise, forensic departments – in particular at auditing firms – could be interesting to people with a background in accounting or similar areas.
CSR management and reporting are increasingly appealing to people with knowledge and skills in areas like ecological and social sustainability, ethics and stakeholder engagement.
Other potential occupational fields include organizational and personnel development, personnel management, corporate communication (internal and external), stakeholder engagement (incl. stakeholder dialog), global procurement (through global sourcing), certification of environmental and social standards (through auditing), work with NGOs, consulting services (such as integrity services), teaching at educational institutes and pursuance of an academic trajectory.
