IT Services & IT Governance
TU Dresden is developing its digital services and IT governance as part of the EXU program so as to advance digital transformation in all areas of the university. The main focus is on the establishment of the CDIO as a member of the Extended University Executive Board, which took place in 2020.
The CDIO develops strategies for digitalization in teaching, research and administration as well as for the responsible use of IT, and receives support for implementing them from the Center for Information Services and High-Performance Computing (ZIH), Unit 3.5 Information Security and Directorate 6 – Planning and Organization.
As an interdepartmental topic, digitalization can only succeed if it extends beyond the managerial level and is firmly entrenched in decentralized structures, processes and responsibilities. A key element of digitalization at TU Dresden is the establishment and expansion of a university-wide IT governance structure.
The establishment of the CDIO Strategy Council and the IT Coordinating Team, who advise and support the CDIO in achieving his objectives, marked significant initial milestones. These milestones will be closely followed by the planned establishment of the Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS) and the focused development of IT service support.
CDIO Strategy Council
The CDIO is supported by and regularly convenes a strategically-minded committee, the CDIO Strategy Council. The CDIO Strategy Council comprises the School CIOs/CDIOs of the Central Academic Units, the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital Dresden (UKD) and the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB), the Head of Directorate 6 – Planning and Organization, the Head of Unit 3.5 Information Security and the Director of the ZIH.
IT Coordinating Team
The IT Coordinating Team supports the CDIO. They address issues and agreements relating to the operational management of IT infrastructure and underlying services and can submit proposals for resolutions in this regard to the CDIO Strategy Council. The IT Coordinating Team consists of the IT Advisors of the Schools and the Central Academic Units as well as representatives of all member groups of the university. The CDIO chairs and convenes the IT Coordinating Team.
Center for Information Services and High-Performance Computing (ZIH)
As an Academic Unit at TU Dresden, the ZIH is responsible for the university’s communication infrastructure and operates the central IT infrastructure services and servers. It supports members of TUD in their IT tasks related to research and teaching. It also offers a wide range of training courses and information events.
