Doctoral student Jasmin Uttner visits AESOP Annual Congress in Paris
In July 2024, Jasmin Uttner, a doctoral student at the Chair of Land Management at TU Dresden, took part in the 36th Congress of the AESOP (Association of European Schools of Planning) in Paris. The international conference with over 1,100 participants was held under the motto "Game Changer? - Planning for Just and Sustainable Urban Regions". The latest developments and challenges in urban planning were discussed with representatives from academia and practice in a variety of thematic tracks.
In a poster session, Jasmin Uttner presented her doctoral project, which examines the effects of urban heat on different population groups in the cities of Dresden and Frankfurt am Main. The focus of her poster contribution was on the design of a standardized population survey that asks in particular about the subjective heat stress and the behaviour of residents in various everyday situations. The online survey is carried out in particularly heat-prone districts, which were identified using a GIS analysis with the help of climate function maps.
The professional exchange at the conference provided valuable input for the further development of the survey. Participants were able to access the online questionnaire via a QR code and provide feedback. The population survey was launched in Dresden and Frankfurt am Main at the beginning of September 2024. Around 1,000 households in both cities have taken part so far.
Special thanks go to the Society of Friends and Sponsors of TU Dresden for providing financial support for participation in the conference.
