Neue Sekundärbahn - Innovative Route Assurance to improve Economic Viability of Railway Lines for regional Traffic

Project Description
Die Focus of the Project is the development of a novel System based on GNSS-Positioning for train protection and regulation for "Sekundärbahnen". The main components of the system are:

• reduced track equipment,
• no traditional railway control center and
• no stationary signals.

Further goals are:

• Development of a GNSS based Positioning concept and
• Interoperability improvement.

The main advantage of the proposed solution is the significant reduction of needed Hardware components for railway branch lines, which would lead to lower route and operating costs, while keeping the same level of safety compared to status quo.

The developed System will be integrated in a demonstrator in a labratory environment at Technische Universität Dresden, Faculty of Transport and Traffic Science.
