Studieninformation mal anders – New Perspectives for Prospective Students
Studieninformation mal anders (new perspectives for prospective students) is a group of students from various degree programs at TU Dresden. We provide school pupils firsthand information to facilitate their choice of degree program. To this end, we hold presentations and discussions delivering personal insight into our degree programs and student life in general.
In contrast to the Central Student Information and Counseling Service, our insights come from real-life, personal experiences. A majority of the students in the group are involved in areas of university life beyond their studies, be they technical or social, which is supported by the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship.
If you would like to know more about the group members, visit and follow our Instagram account. This is also a good channel for you to get in contact with us.
Here are some excerpts from our presentations on different degree programs.
We look forward to answering questions in personal chats or during presentations at schools!
● What is student life in Dresden like?
● What do students do in between semesters or during breaks?
● Do you want to learn more about a specific degree program?
● Are you unsure whether you want to go to university, vocational school or maybe take a gap year?
If you think that your peers or your teacher could also be interested, let us know and we will contact your teacher or your school to organize a presentation on site. In our experience, it helps if you contact us.
Send us an email! It could look something like this:
Dear students of Studieninformation mal anders,
My name is ... . I’m a pupil at ... school.
I’m interested in the degree program ... .
My question is: ...?
Sincerely,
We look forward to replying and giving you the guidance you need :)
Our presentations take many different forms. We most frequently visit 11th and 12th grade classes for one or two periods.
Two to five of us from different degree programs will come to hold presentations followed by a discussion session, where the pupils have the opportunity to ask questions. You can let us know if there are certain aspects we should focus on. We also look forward to virtual advising or events outside of the school day.
For pupils, our perspectives and personal contact with students are important sources of information that can help them choose what to study. The purpose of our events is not advertising for a university degree, specific degree programs or TU Dresden as an institution. We offer personal impressions of our university experiences and this typically lands well with school pupils.
Do you think that your class or school would benefit from one of our presentations?

Since spring 2020, we have also been holding our sessions via video conference and have had a very good experience with this. We would like to continue to offer this service and are happy to talk to school pupils throughout Germany. We are flexible as regards your video conferencing software (Zoom, Skype, etc.) and will be happy to coordinate with you.
Are you a student at TU Dresden who is interested in presenting your degree program to school pupils and chatting with them about it? Then register for this OPAL course: https://tud.link/9ew4. You will receive information about events taking place and are then free to decide if you would like to take part or not. We look forward to hearing from you! :)
Still not convinced? Here are what pupils and teachers have to say:
“Your event helped me immensely; it’s great to be able to pose questions directly to students.”
“Thank you for the excellent event. It was good to hear things from a student’s perspective.”
“It was really well organized, and being able to speak with the students really provided me with a different perspective. Thank you very much! ”
“We give this event top marks! Thank you for being so authentic and friendly, for the in-depth information and for the many tips on daily life that will make ‘surviving’ a lot easier and helped provide a realistic approach to future decisions.”
