Radiation Protection Office

Many institutes, labs, and facilities at TU Dresden use radioactive substances, X-ray devices, electron microscopes, and particle generators and accelerators. All these substances and devices emit ionizing radiation.

To protect the personnel and the environment from the dangers of ionizing radiation, there are a number of laws and regulations to be followed. The main laws are:

Atomgesetz (AtG)
Strahlenschutzgesetz (StrlSchG)
Strahlenschutzverordnung (StrlSchV 2018).

Additionally, there are many supporting national and international regulations.

The implementation and enforcement of the legally required radiation protection system at TU Dresden ist the task of the Radiation Protection Office.

Our mission is to give a substantial support and help to the personnel of TU Dresden which uses radioacitvity or ionizing radiation. We provide practical help and advice, take over necessary management tasks, and counsel about the use of ionizing radiation.

Our staff has expertise from many years in the practical use of radioactive substances and ionizing radiation and also in the application of nearly all related laws and regulations.

The Radiation Protection Office operates the Central Radionuclide Laboratory of TU Dresden.
