The Senate of the TUD

The Senate is a central body of the TUD Dresden University of Technology (TUD). It consists of up to 21 voting members (according to § 85 paragraph 2 of the Saxon Higher Education Act - SächsHSG). It is responsible for academic matters in the areas of teaching, studies, continuing education and research, i.e. it deals with all fundamental issues and topics that affect the entire university or are of fundamental importance.
The TU Dresden Senate usually meets on the second Wednesday of every month. Its exact tasks and responsibilities are defined in § 85 SächsHSG.
The Extended Senate
In accordance with Section 86 (1) SächsHSG, it is made up of the voting members of the Senate (in accordance with Section 85 (2) SächsHSG) and at least an equal number of elected representatives of the member groups (in accordance with Section 51 (1) SächsHSG). Among other things, it is responsible for adopting the Fundamental Principles of the University and for electing and, if necessary, dismissing the Rector (in accordance with Section 86(2) SächsHSG).
Senate Commissions
All members of the Senate may participate in the meetings of the Senate Commissions, but without the right to vote (in accordance with Section 13 (1) sentence 7 of the Fundamental Principles of the TUD). Advisory Directors are also represented in each commission. These are appointed by the Chancellor and can be represented.
The Senate of the TUD has appointed the following commissions in accordance with § 85 paragraph 3, sentence 3 SächsHSG:
- Planning, Budget, Structure and Strategy Commission (Chair: Rector)
- Research and Early Career Commission (Chair: Vice-Rector Research and Technology Transfer)
- Teaching Commission (Chair: Vice-Rector Academic Affairs Across the Life Course)
- Equal Opportunities and Diversity Management Commission (Chair: Vice-Rector University Culture and Internationalization).
