​Interview with Felix Räuber, lead singer with the band Polarkreis 18

TU Dresden: We are very pleased that Polarkreis 18 and in particular Felix are helping with our promotional campaign. I would still like to know why you decided to do this?

Felix Räuber: Polarkreis 18, the band I sing and play in is made up 100 per cent of Dresdners. We were all born here. We've all lived here since we were born. The great thing for us about this project is that through the excellence status of the university, Dresden will, of course, attract many more young people, and probably be given a breath of fresh air as a result. That would make us very happy as young people because we partly have the feeling that Dresden is a bit traditional, and I think more young people would do the city good.

TU Dresden: Today, 36,000 young people study at TU Dresden. Is that something you actually notice?

Felix Räuber: Of course I - or we - have a lot of contact with people of our age. Mostly students. So you do notice it, but I've never taken part in everyday life at the university. But I think if everyone who wanted to study and who got the chance to study, if they all came to Dresden, that'd be great for us. Lots of people would come who’d just enhance the city.

TU Dresden: Does the university have any significance for a band like Polarkreis 18?

Felix Räuber: The university lies close to our hearts especially because we are Dresdners, because we support our city and communicate that again and again whenever we're abroad, when we're on tour. We spend much more time away from Dresden than in the city. It dawns on us again and again what a beautiful city it is, especially when we come home. And the wonderful attitude to life that’s expressed here is also due to TU Dresden. And we support every contribution to improving that lifestyle even more. TU Dresden's excellence project is part of that. It's a wonderful thing.

We, Polarkreis 18, support TU Dresden and would be very happy if lots and lots of other people supported it, too!
