Knowledge Creates Dynamics
Interview with Reiner Calmund, member of Dynamo Dresden soccer club
TU Dresden: We received a spontaneous commitment from you to take part in our poster campaign. What motivated you to back TU Dresden?
Reiner Calmund: My motto is: don't just talk about it - do it! And besides, it's always been very important to me to do a lot for children and young people, including those who don't live on the sunny side of life. That's how I know how important education is: education, education, and again, education. For young people that’s where their prospects for life are. It’s also the way for us old codgers to support universities and schools, because it's also our future and our chance for a good Germany.
TU Dresden: And why are you campaigning for TU Dresden and for our application to become a University of Excellence?
Reiner Calmund: I have very close connections with Dresden, not just with Dynamo Soccer Club but with lots of people. Dresden has fantastic cultural opportunities and you can see things are happening not only in the traditional manufactories of Glashütte and Meissen Porcelain but also in the new modern industries. We only have to think of fields such as solar technology, electronics and medicine: all these areas which are forging ahead here are so successful thanks partly to TU Dresden. We have to support that! For me, especially as someone who has gained a certain prominence, to make clear to young people this is the place to study, this is your chance. These are your prospects.
TU Dresden: As a manager for many years, what advice can you give TU Dresden?
Reiner Calmund: Competence and passion are the formula for success as far as I'm concerned. Competence means, of course, education, training, know-how, experience, further training, development, further education. Add passion to that. Nothing is possible without passion. I have to identify with the things I do, with my studies, and later in my job, with my product, with my team and colleagues, with my suppliers and customers. I have to be dedicated and enthusiastic, I have to put my heart into things and I have to have the desire to win. I think TU Dresden is capable of all of that!
