Female scientists in the spotlight: film evening at the Kino im Kasten
To mark the upcoming International Women's Day, Diversity Management at TU Dresden invites you to a special film evening. On 7 March at 7 pm, the inspiring documentary "Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Storywill" be shown at the Kino im Kasten (Trailer).
Hollywood star Hedy Lamarr was once considered the world's most beautiful woman. However, her life as a scientist and her pioneering work in the field of mobile phone technology has never been properly recognised. As an Austrian Jew who emigrated to the USA, she invented a jam-proof telecommunications system that could have contributed to the defeat of the Third Reich. However, she was rejected by the American navy - she was told to sell kisses in exchange for war bonds. It was only shortly before her death that scientists discovered her invention, which serves as the basis for today's communication technology. Hedy Lamarr never spoke publicly about her life as a scientist. It was the director Alexandra Dean and the producer Adam Haggiag who brought to light four cassettes on which Hedy documented her unknown life...
A special highlight of the evening is the premiere of the new TUD film: ‘Researching, Inspiring, Teaching: Female Professors at TU Dresden’. The film introduces impressive female scientists and focuses on their excellent research.
After the screening, there will be an opportunity to network. The event is open to all interested parties, registration is not required.
