What makes this gem special?
This lecture series caters to all target groups, from schoolchildren to senior citizens. It follows a logical structure and teaches fundamental knowledge simply, meaning it is possible to visit individual lectures and still grasp the topic. The lecture series' interdisciplinary approach promotes an understanding of the connections between climate change and humanity and presents interdisciplinary approaches to finding a solution. Lecture series organization – such as interactive communication with participants (mailing list and forum), access to teaching material (presentation slides and supplementary information) and examinations (statement portfolio, control questions for proof of attendance and test) – is carried out via OPAL. All lectures are interactive and provide space for questions and discussions. We pay special attention to the needs of our participants. As such, our course featured both synchronous-hybrid and asynchronous participation. This means participants could either visit the lecture in person, stream it online or watch the recording at a later date, which we made available to the public via Videocampus Sachsen. Moreover, we also offered various examination types for learners to choose from, thereby accommodating our diverse student body. Alongside the open-book online exam, in the 2021/22 winter semester, participants could also create and present a scientific poster. In the 2022 summer semester, there was additionally the option to create a collaborative portfolio using a digital notepad. To monitor online attendance, we used the OPAL platform to ask participants control questions.
