S3 - Security from Seat to Seat
Within the scope of the air traffic research program III (group project S3- Security from Seat to Seat) a consortium was performed consisting of Lufthansa Systems, Dresden University of Technology, German Aerospace Center (DLR), RAND Europe and SAT simulation- and automation technology GmbH. The project focuses the development of possibilities and measures for the optimization of handling procedures at airports. How far the safety within the area of air traffic can be increased under the consideration of the passenger friendliness (minimization of interventions and incidents) without causing any capacity restraints is in the centre of the investigations.
The project´s central task is a further development of the safety standards during the handling in coordination with airlines and airports as well as creating it shorter and easier for the customer at the same time. The target within the scope of the project that ran until the end of 2007 was to achieve a procedure improvement, a further speed up of process operations and a significant increase in the passenger comfort. For this, new methods and safety technologies were used in a supportive manner. Security measures are part of the most expensive area within the airport operation, this why they were developed further, especially in respect of the events of the 11th September 2001. Process optimisation could lead to a higher cost saving. In 2001 for example there were 330 Mio. Euro investigated in the security check of passengers at the 10 biggest airports in Germany. Due to the dimensions and a further improvement of security checks it becomes obvious why the BMWA investigates its subsidy at this place and why they are furthermore connected with the sanction of the eventual processing of the results.
