Reading Audrée Wilhelmy (Québec): White resin
Table of contents
AUDRÉE WILHELMY, born in 1985 in Cap-Rouge (Québec), has published six novels in French in Canada and France, most of which have also been published in English. Weißes Harz (Blanc Résine) is her first novel, which was also published in German (S. Marix Verlag, Verlagshaus Römerweg) in 2024, for which the author received the Prix Ouest-France Étonnants Voyageurs.
Audrée Wilhelmy's poetic language takes us into a harsh and confusing world in the heart of nature. Her breathtaking nature writing is both a romantic drama and a feminist fable.
It tells the story of two people who could hardly be more different: The wild Daã, fearless, independent and strong-willed, is raised in northern Canada by 24 sisters of a convent and by the taiga; and Laure, son of an exploited coal mine worker with albinism, miraculously becomes a doctor - partly to earn the respect his albinism denies him. One day they run into each other and can't help but fall in love. Daã moves to the city with Laure and has three children. But she will not bow to the laws of man. While he dreams of an orderly existence in good society, she longs only for freedom.
