Fellow Lecture PD Dr. Martina Stemberger
The Viennese comparatist and Romance philologist PD Dr. Martina Stemberger was a DRESDEN Fellow at the Centrum Frankreich | Frankophonie in the 2019 summer semester.
In her Fellow Lecture on June 27, 2019, she presented her latest research project on gender and genre in contemporary French-language travel literature.
Like the journey itself, the travelogue is a privileged terrain for the discursive renegotiation of gender identities, gender roles and stereotypes, between affirmation and subversion.
In this sense, the project examines an extensive corpus of contemporary texts against the background of the prehistory of travel literature in the 19th and 20th centuries and with special consideration of a number of still little-known female travel writers.
