Reading & discussion with Fatima Daas about her novel "The Youngest Daughter"
Table of contents
French author Fatima Daaswas a guest in Dresden to present her novel "The Youngest Daughter".
Fatima is the child no one has been waiting for, the latecomer, the only daughter who was born in France and not in Algeria. She grows up with her sisters in the notorious banlieue of Clichy. Love and sexuality are taboo in her family. At school, Fatima is non-conformist, loud and thirsty for knowledge. She prefers to hang out with the boys and feels wrong in her own skin. Until she meets Nina and realizes her own feelings for her. But loving a woman not only brings her into conflict with her family and her faith, but also with herself.
Breathless and incredibly eloquent, Fatima Daas shows in her highly acclaimed debut that you don't have to choose and that being torn by your own identity is not a flaw - an impressive story of female self-empowerment(Ullstein 2021, translated from French by Sina de Malafosse).
Fatima Daa's debut novel "La Petite Dernière" was on the French bestseller list for weeks, celebrated by the press and translated into numerous languages. In 2021, the German translation was awarded the International Literature Prize.
