Poetry evening - "Poèmes embarbelés / Poems behind barbed wire"
On January 27, the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of National Socialism, poems by prisoners of war from the Oflag IV-D (Hoyerswerda) camp were read during a commemorative evening at the Institute français Dresden.
"Oflag IV-D" - behind this official designation lies the name of one of the largest prisoner-of-war camps for officers in Elsterhorst (now Nardt) near Hoyerswerda in Saxony, which existed from 1939 to 1945.
Among others, 6,000 French officers were imprisoned here during the Second World War.
On January 27, the day of remembrance for the victims of National Socialism, poems written by these officers during their imprisonment were recited in the original with a summary in German. The authors and their lives in the "Elsterhorst" camp were also introduced.
