Termination of Enrolment
If you wish to complete or break off your studies at TU Dresden, you need to exmatriculate by submitting an application to have your name removed from the university register of students. To do this, you need to access the exmatriculation application form which you can find under [Oganisation of Studies] and [Application Overview] on the Student Portal, fill it in, submit it online and then print it out and send it to the Admissions Office or International Office. The exmatriculation certificates and the “Bescheinigung zum Nachweis des Studiums” (certificate to confirm you have studied) which is required for your pension insurance will be sent to you by post to the address we have on our files at the time when your application is processed. For this reason, please keep us informed of your current address even after leaving TU Dresden. In order to update your address, please go to the Student Portal and choose [MY PERSONAL DETAILS] and then [CHANGE OF ADDRESS] from the menu.
Please note that no application to exmatriculate needs to be submitted for changing to another degree course within TU Dresden.
When specifying the date of your exmatriculation, please note the following:
- It is not possible to apply to exmatriculate retroactively.
- When changing university, it is advisable to exmatriculate at the end of the semester you are currently in so that for insurance purposes, a smooth transition to the next university can be ensured.
- It is recommended that students wishing to exmatriculate at the end of the semester but who still have to do the last part of their final exams (defence of the degree thesis etc.) should re-register for the new semester, as student accident insurance only comes into effect if registration at the time of the last exams can be proven. Where necessary, the exam regulations prescribe that registration is a condition for taking the final exam. Incidentally, the Student Council will reimburse the contribution for the semester ticket on a pro rata basis if exmatriculation takes place during the semester. You can obtain application forms for this from the Student Council.
Students who have to be exmatriculated in accordance with section13 paragraphs 2 and 3 ImmaO receive confirmation of their removal from the university register of students from the Admissions Office/International Office at TU Dresden. As a rule, exmatriculation comes into effect at the end of the semester in which it is announced. Upon exmatriculation, every student who is removed from the register of students receives an exmatriculation certificate and a pension insurance certificate.
Reasons for an ex officio exmatriculation include:
- The student has successfully passed his/her final exam and is not registered in another degree programme.
- The student has failed a final attempt at passing a final exam or a course which, according to the examination regulations, is required for passing the final exam, and is not registered in another degree programme.
- The student has brought about exmatriculation through coercion, deliberate deception or bribery.
- The student has not re-registered in accordance with section 11 ImmaO.
- Facts are known that would have led to registration being rejected.
- The student has not immediately started a degree programme in spite of a written request to do so and being warned of an impending exmatriculation.
As a rule, ex officio exmatriculations are only carried out when the Admissions Office or International Office obtain notification regarding the above-mentioned matter from the examination office responsible. Exmatriculations are not carried out retroactively unless the student has not re-registered properly for the new semester. In this case, exmatriculation is set in motion retroactively for the end of the previous semester.

- who wish to change their degree programme or a subject,

do not have to exmatriculate.
