General information for the degree programme

Mechanical Engineering is one of the traditional engineering disciplines that deals with the development, production and operation of machines and plants in all industrial sectors. Mechanical engineering studies at TU Dresden provide fundamental knowledge in the natural sciences and engineering, disciplines that have a focus on methods and tasks and also a wide range of specialisations. After having completed basic courses, students can opt for one of eight disciplines that is best suited to their abilities and professional intent:

- General and Structural Mechanical Engineering
- Energy Technology
- Automotive and Rolling Stock Engineering
- Light-Weight Construction
- Aerospace Engineering
- Production Engineering
- Simulation Methods in Mechanical Engineering
- Processing Machines and Textile Machinery Manufacturing

Students gain the knowledge and skills needed to efficiently use machines and plants, but also to utilise equipment with regard to the environment and to use resources responsibly. The combination of research and teaching provides a great opportunity for students to get a practical insight into the various application areas of mechanical engineering. In the 7th semester students do a subject-related internship. As interns, students can test the theoretical knowledge they gained in their studies in a practical professional environment.
