TIN*clusive University

Progressive Pride Flag
TU Dresden should be a place where TIN university members feel welcome and can develop freely. TIN* that means Trans*, Inter*, Nonbinary and refers to diverse gender identities.
The law amending the Personal Status Act came into force at the end of 2018. The amendment to the Personal Status Act, which now allows the entries "female," "male," "no specification," and "diverse" in the birth register, broke with the classification of genders into a binary system. This has also brought the discourse on the linguistic visualization of gender diversity into the focus of the general public.
Explanation of terms (pdf-file)
With the claim of gender- and diversity-sensitive language and image design, the TU Dresden has adopted a completely updated language guide in 2022.
TU Dresden recognizes the dgti supplementary statement. The document of the German Society for Transidentity and Intersexuality e.V. (dgti) serves as a basis for changing the first name and gender entry for students and employees.
Where do the challenges lie so that queer realities of life in study, work, partnership and care are finally a natural part of the community of our university? This is a priority objective in the updating of the equality concept. Required are, among other things
- the continuation and expansion of counseling services and contact points such as the QUEER-PEER counseling;
- considerations regarding statistical collection of personal data and representation, e.g. in committees, which basically names at least the option diverse;
- for public relations work in the subject areas of equality and diversity and diversity-sensitive teaching, in particular also for making queer persons visible as a matter of course, an appropriate mapping of the evidence is needed, i.e. significantly better photo and image material;
- a regular exchange between the actors in the subject areas;
- the examination of possibilities to better adapt the structural infrastructure to the needs, e.g. in the provision of toilet rooms;
- maintaining the recognition of the DGTI ID card at the TU Dresden in parallel with the nationwide implementation of the Gender Self-Determination Act (SBGG).

It also aims to support in overcoming the many hurdles queer people still face in everyday life.
You are also welcome to contact queer peer counseling should you have issue-specific concerns, such as queer-sensitive teaching or allyship .
