Task Force LANGUAGE
The Act amending the Civil Registry Act came into force at the end of 2018. With the amendment to the Civil Registry Act, which now allows the categories "female", "male", "not declared" and "divers" to be entered in the birth register, the classification of the sexes into a binary system is made obsolete. This has also brought the discourse about visualising gender diversity in language into the focus of the general public.
With the claim of a gender- and diversity-sensitive language and image design, the TU Dresden also takes these conditions into consideration. For example, in the TU Dresden's Equal Opportunities Concept 2018, Measure 9.1 explicitly deals with the development of recommendations and support in implementing the new guidelines.
On 23.09.2019, a discussion group with the participation of all departments and other committed protagonists met for the first time to discuss what this new legal provision means in detail for our everyday work with its processes and routines and how we want to deal with the new circumstances. Further rounds of talks will take place in the coming months.
