Where is TU Dresden in the current Excellence Competition?
On Wednesday, December 6, 2017, TU Dresden’s Rector Prof. Hans Müller-Steinhagen provided an update on the university’s application status for the Excellence Strategy by the Federal and State governments (pdf in German only; ZIH Login required). All members of TU Dresden and interested parties from the DRESDEN-concept institutions were invited.
TU Dresden is off to an encouraging start in the Excellence Competition: we are entering the next round with six full proposals for Clusters of Excellence and as a result, have every chance of being eligible to apply for the “University of Excellence” funding line. The proposal must be submitted to the German Council of Science and Humanities in December 2018, provided that at least two of our proposals for Clusters of Excellence were successful. This, however, will not be decided until September 2018.
TU Dresden launched the process of drafting the proposal for “University of Excellence” at an early stage. This includes, in particular, gathering ideas and openly exchanging these at the university, which began with a university-wide brainstorming session in July 2017.
The information session was designed to present the next steps in drafting the proposal with which Tu Dresden intends to defend its “University of Excellence” title. This included questions such as: What are the requirements of the German Council of Science and Humanities in the funding line “Universities of Excellence”? How is our proposal for “University of Excellence” being prepared? How can you become a part of the process?
The Rector invited all members of the university to participate in the “Future Labs 2018” event series (ZIH Login required), during which central topics for the overall strategy of TU Dresden are to be discussed.
