Responsibility Weeks
TU Dresden is pursuing the goal of becoming an excellent role model for a socially responsible institution that implements equality, diversity and cosmopolitanism and acts sustainably with an impact on society. As an employer and educational institution, the university not only bears responsibility for its members, but also for our social coexistence as a driving force in the region. Under the leadership of the University Culture department, the Weeks of Responsibility are once again taking place at TU Dresden this November. The program includes a month of diverse and exciting events on the topics of diversity, sustainability, health and anti-discrimination. In keeping with the "Dresden Spirit", all members of the university will also have the opportunity to take on responsibility, get involved or further their education.

Program
All the activities offered as part of the Weeks of Responsibility are free of charge and are aimed at TU Dresden employees and students . Registration is required for some offers. If you need support due to language or other barriers, please do not hesitate to let us know at .
Diversity
The Weeks of Responsibility start with the Diversity Days 2024, which will take place from November 4 to 8 under the motto "Dialogue builds bridges: Together for diversity and democracy". TU Dresden sees itself as an inclusive university where being different is a matter of course. For a decade now, Diversity Management at TU Dresden has been committed to valuing the diversity of its members and their equal opportunities to participate.
You can find the entire program of this year's Diversity Days under this link: https://tu-dresden.de/tu-dresden/universitaetskultur/diversitaet-inklusion/diversity-an-der-tu-dresden/diversity-tage/diversity-tage-2024
Anti-discrimination
Respectful and appreciative interaction is one of the foundations of TU Dresden. The university disapproves of any form of discrimination and is actively committed to eliminating it. For this reason, the Weeks of Responsibility also focus on strengthening democratic action.
On 04.11.2024 at 5 pm, everyone is cordially invited to a special event as part of the "Zikaron baSalon on Campus", at which Holocaust survivor Renate Aris, born in Dresden in 1935, will share her impressive and moving life story with us.
"Zikaron BaSalon" is an intimate form of remembrance that makes it possible to reflect on the Holocaust in a personal and touching atmosphere. In a small circle of listeners, Renate Aris talks about her experiences during the Nazi era, her survival and the challenges of starting again. This encounter offers a rare opportunity to learn first-hand about the horrors and overcoming of this dark time.
The event creates space for open discussions and personal exchange, in which questions can be asked and thoughts shared. It is an evening of remembering, learning and reflecting together.
All participants in the event are responsible for respectful and mindful interaction. Behavior that contradicts this will not be tolerated.
The event takes place in a low-barrier room and in German spoken language. If you are unable to attend due to language or other barriers, please do not hesitate to let us know.
Please register in advance at
(TU Dresden students have priority for participation, please use your TU e-mail address to register).
Please also send any further questions to this address.
Elimination of violence against women/gender-specific violence
On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25, TU Dresden would also like to set an example in terms of responsibility and use the day to draw attention to gender-specific violence. Violence against women, non-binary and trans people as a universal phenomenon cannot be limited to certain nations, religions, educational backgrounds or income levels. This problem does not stop at the university and its members either. A variety of free formats raise awareness in order to resolutely oppose all forms of violence at all levels.
Event cooperation with FUN*(FrauenUmweltNetzwerk) and TUD Complaints Office.
- Workshop: Sexualized violence at the university. Just single cases? (German)
With its own participation in the Unisafe research project, TU Dresden is addressing the phenomenon of sexualized harassment, discrimination and violence at universities. The brief input from project coordinator Anja Wiede (contact person for harassment, discrimination and violence) provides an overview of the occurrence and, more importantly, of support options for these incidents, because: even if most people do not have to experience sexualized violence as victims, many find themselves as so-called "bystanders" (bystanders and/or (un)conscious witnesses). In the sense of a joint assumption of responsibility, the participants finally develop their own possibilities for intervention.- Date: 08.11.2024
- Time: 13:00 - 16:00
- Location: SE2/123/U
- Workshop: Finally confronting everyday sexism in an appropriately way (German)
It really is lurking everywhere: everyday sexism. Sometimes it's eloquent, sometimes physical, sometimes more subtle, but it's always definitely out of line. In this workshop, we want to "arm" each other with tools, such as the power of language, the comedy of facial expressions and gestures and whatever else we can think of, and which we can use in moments that leave us speechless, in which we feel powerless or small. Pinch the buttocks of everyday sexism instead of being pinched ourselves. The workshop is aimed at all people who experience sexism in their everyday lives.- Date: 22.11.2024
- Time: 13:00 - 16:00
- Location: SE2/123/U
- Closing event: Christmas party
The final event is intended to provide a relaxed setting for networking.- Date: 16.12.2024
- Time: 13:00 - 16:00
- Location: FOE/102/U
Please register for the workshops in advance! The exact location of each workshop will be announced in time. Just send us an e-mail to .
Sexualized violence is a topic that often remains hidden and yet affects many people. In our interdisciplinary reading group, we offer students the opportunity to deal with this sensitive topic in a safe, supportive space.
Whether you have already dealt intensively with the topic of sexualized violence or are completely new to it, there is room for everyone here. Your area of expertise doesn't matter - we believe that the diversity of perspectives enriches our discussions.
The reading group offers you the opportunity to shape the content together with others. As a group, we decide on texts, films or other media that help us to look at the topic from different perspectives. Our aim is to create a safe space in which everyone can talk openly about personal experiences, social structures and scientific findings - without pressure or (pre-)judgment.
If you are interested in learning more about sexualized violence and creating a space for exchange and reflection together with other students, we look forward to hearing from you!
The first event will take place on 14.11.2024 16.40 in GLB 7-101. 6 further dates will follow. The dates will be decided together.
The reading circle takes place in German spoken language. Whispered translations can be organized.
15.11.2024 // 2 - 5 p.m.
Female socialized people are often confronted with situations in everyday life that are perceived as borderline insensitive or even assaultive.
The assertiveness course will help them to strengthen their confidence in their own needs and boundaries. Together, the participants develop a sensitivity for the diversity of their reaction strategies when dealing with various incidents. Perception exercises, the use of the voice and the development of an inner attitude are just as much a part of the course as learning release and striking techniques. The focus is on solidarity with one another.
The workshop is held in English and is aimed at female socialized persons. All participants are responsible for dealing with each other in a way that is sensitive to discrimination. Persons who are assisted by companions or dogs or similar, or who otherwise encounter barriers to participation in assertiveness courses, please contact the organizers in advance.
The course takes place in barrier-free rooms.
The workshop will be led by Ania Wiede. She is a certified trainer for feminist self-assertion and self-defense.

23.11.-07.12.2024: Empowering Bodies
The "Dance Forms" series shows in a special way that dance can be shaped according to the cultural background, biographies or circumstances of the artists and is a means of expressing inner states and establishing communication with each other and the audience. HELLERAU will continue the series on three weekends in November and December 2024 under the title "Empowering Bodies". Artistic works will be presented that have an inherent power of resistance - a rebellion against social or political grievances caused by a longing for self-determination. The choreographers' artistic works convey their very own, individual body images, group choreographies and spatial constellations that use the power of dance to imagine utopian worlds - against instrumentalization and for autonomy.
"Shout Aloud" (23. & 24.11.) by choreographer Yasmeen Godder and world-famous singer Dikla kicks off the festival, with eight dancers and nine musicians bringing themes such as rebellion, grief and anger to life from a female perspective. On the second weekend, in "Zona Franca" (29 & 30.11.) by Alice Ripoll & Companhia Suave, ten performers combine passinho, dancinha, voguing, samba and hip-hop to express their longing for self-determination.
The last weekend (06. & 07.12.) offers a double program: In "She was a friend of someone else", Gosia Wdowik sheds light on the connection between activism and burnout in the context of the fight for the right to abortion in Poland. In "New Report on Giving Birth", choreographer Wen Hui and four dancers meet as mothers, non-mothers and women with migration histories and venture new perspectives on female bodies.
In addition to the artistic program, there will also be various workshops, audience discussions, the film "1001 Nights Apart" by Sarvnaz Alambeigi and a concert with Cudowne Lata.

November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (also known as International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women ). It was established by the United Nations in 1999 and is intended to draw attention to the widespread violence against women and girls worldwide. The day serves to raise awareness of various forms of violence - including domestic violence, sexual harassment, human trafficking and structural injustices - and to promote measures to combat them.
Over a hot drink and a pastry, everyone has the opportunity to talk about the day and its background in the exchange room. All thoughts and feelings should find their place here, every reaction is welcome.
You are also welcome to bring along texts, movie tips or special music. Information material can also be shared.
"It's none of my business..." Relationship violence is often seen as a private problem, something that happens on TV or perhaps in other cultures, but not here, and certainly not to you. In this lecture, you will learn why domestic violence concerns us all, how people get caught up in the maelstrom of a violent relationship, why it is so difficult to separate, how early signs of violence in relationships can be recognized and where and how those affected can find support.
The lecture will be held in German and is organized by STUDYSMART // Career Service

Digital violence such as cyberbullying, stalking or hate comments - the internet is full of it. In our workshop "Digital self-defense - courageously confronting anti-feminism", you will learn how to effectively defend yourself against such attacks. How do I recognize digital threats, when is it punishable and how can I defend myself? The workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to protect themselves against digital violence and build digital resilience.
The workshop will be held in German and will be conducted by Nadja Gottschalk (speaker culture and technology).
With its own participation in the Unisafe research project, TU Dresden is addressing the phenomenon of sexualized harassment, discrimination and violence at universities. The workshop therefore begins with an overview of definitions and statistical figures. Project coordinator and workshop leader Anja Wiede (contact person for harassment, discrimination and violence at TUD) then works with the participants on their own attitudes and possible prejudices on the topic. Nevertheless, the focus is on the support options in the event of these incidents, because even if most people do not have to experience sexualized harassment, discrimination and violence as victims, many find themselves as so-called "bystanders" ((un)conscious witnesses). In the sense of a collective assumption of responsibility, the participants will therefore develop their own intervention options.

Health
Especially in times of high demands at university, at work or at home, everyone wants to stay healthy or become healthier. University Health Management at TU Dresden therefore offers university members numerous offers that promote a healthy learning and working environment.
According to a self-assessment by students, psychological impairments have the greatest influence on their academic success. In addition, some students already start their studies with mental stress. This is where the online forum Psychisch fit studieren comes in and offers you the chance to discuss the big and small questions about mental health during your studies. The team from Irrsinnig Menschlich e. V. will provide you with exciting information about your mental well-being during your studies. Learn more about the warning signs of the psyche and get to know strategies for coping with mental crises. Together we want to find out who and what can help you to strengthen yourself. We will also introduce you to support services directly at the university so that you know where you can find support.
When and where? On November 4 from 18:00 to 20:00 online via Zoom.
Language: German
Registration is now possible here.
Sustainability
TU Dresden is firmly anchored locally and, as a global player, strives to develop into an ecologically responsible and sustainable institution in order to fulfill its responsibility towards society and future generations. Environmental and climate protection and ecological sustainability are high priorities at TU Dresden. However, the TU Dresden Green Office also offers a number of other events.
Are you interested in sustainability and would like to promote it at TU Dresden, in your Faculty, your Unit, your Faculty Student Council or your university group, but don't know how to get started? Would you like to talk to colleagues and fellow students about sustainability and sustainable working and living, but are facing challenges? Or you don't know where to find information and would simply like to network more in order to promote the topic and get to know fellow campaigners.
The Green Office is offering this event to address these issues together with you and provide mutual support. What could be your starting points and opportunities to motivate your institution or committee to become more sustainable? What are the contact points at the university and how can you support each other?
In the first part, we would like to give you an introduction to TU Dresden's efforts and current projects in the field of sustainability and we want you to get to know each other. In the second session, we want to take a closer look at sustainability communication and framing. We have invited experts from Psychologist4Future to show you how to get into a positive conversation with your colleagues and fellow students on the topic and motivate them to become more sustainable at TUD.
Please try to attend both dates.
Target group: This offer was specifically designed for people who want to act as multipliers in your institution, TU Dresden and your committee. This course is intended to be the prelude to networking, supporting and being accompanied by us as sustainability ambassadors.

for stakeholders in development education and teachers
Does ESD deliver what we need to transform society? Does ESD want more than it can do? Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) plays an important role in the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030) and should be anchored at all levels of education. In Saxon adult education, however, there are hardly any offers in both non-formal education and formal education that critically train stakeholders and teachers in the field of ESD/global learning and bring together educational stakeholders from different areas (stakeholders from universities and civil society). We would like to begin to close this gap and offer the first training program on ESD, which also focuses on global perspectives in a targeted manner, for adult education stakeholders (university teachers and stakeholders in development education) in Saxony.
The offer was jointly conceived and organized by the Green Office of TU Dresden and the Saxon Development Education Days (SEBIT), supported by the Chair of Geographic Education at TU Dresden and arche noVa e.V.
Contents:
- Conceptual challenges and contradictions in the implementation of ESD in adult education (input with discussion) Speaker: Nilda Inkermann, Research Associate in the Department of Didactics of Political Education, University of Kassel
- Global perspectives in ESD: How can North-South perspectives in ESD be strengthened and integrated into adult education? (Input with discussion) Advisor: Abdou Rahime Diallo, expert promoter for development policy and migration at theBrandenburg Development Policy Network(VENROB e.V.)
- Methodological/didactic examples and tools for the implementation of ESD in non-formal adult education and in university teaching (workshop: Design Thinking) Speakers: Pauline Hennig and Ariane Schneider, Research Associates at the Chair of Geographical Education, Technische Universtiät Dresden

Every household has different shopping habits, some go shopping daily, others weekly. But how sensible is it to stock up on food? How and, above all, where do you store different foods so that they stay fresh and edible for as long as possible? In what ways can food be preserved? How can I provide for myself if the power goes out for a long time and what does the topic of sustainability actually have to do with food security? These and other questions will be answered in the interactive workshop
If a household appliance no longer works or sewing work is needed, a visit to the RepairCafé on campus can now also help. This self-help workshop helps visitors to hopefully get their faulty appliance back in working order under the guidance of tech-savvy volunteers.
Anyone who would like to receive free repair support and advice is welcome. The RepairCafé is a regular repair event that takes place in the SLUB Makerspace in the Drepunct library (Zellescher Weg 17). Not only the volunteers of the RepairCafé Dresden/ Freital initiative provide support, but also SLUB staff with knowledge and equipment ranging from 3D printers to sewing machines.
In addition to repairing things, the focus is also on the café character. Visitors to the RepairCafé will be able to talk to each other over coffee and cake.
Register for the RepairCafé online at: https://tu-dresden.de/tu-dresden/umwelt-und-klima/greenoffice/anmeldung-repaircafe or at the TU Dresden Green Office on 0351/463-33037.
Want to do something about the climate crisis but don't know how? With the #climatechallenge, you can find levers for climate action and inspire others to join in! The educational format of the #climatechallenge enables participating groups to work effectively and autonomously for lasting climate protection in their environment. To this end, the format strengthens both individual behavioral changes (reducing the footprint) and politically and socially effective action. In three sessions, the aim is to implement a project work in the form of a self-selected more sustainable structure in our own environment.

Like the word "sustainability", the term "transformation" is now well on its way to becoming part of the general vocabulary. As buzzwords, it is no coincidence that both terms are initially characterized by the fact that they are very vague in terms of content; they can be used to mean anything and everything. Everyone wants to be sustainable, and yet both terms also trigger fears (of decline) and negative attitudes, including a refusal to transform.
One thing is undisputed: Humanity - especially in the global North - is living beyond its means. Climate change and the unbridled consumption of resources make it unmistakably clear that global society can only become sustainable if it respects planetary boundaries. If this is to succeed democratically, the social sustainability goals must play a role. So whether we like it or not, the need for a comprehensive transformation of the economy and society is undeniable.
But do we still have enough time for this, and how can this transformation succeed at all? What are the social prerequisites for this and what resistance is there? What opportunities and threats does this process present for the existence of democracy? What needs to change in the relationship between the Global North and the Global South? And above all: How is transformation possible in a way that inspires hope and not fear - how can transformation become a positive narrative?
We want to discuss these questions and certainly a few more with our Advisor Caspar Dohmen. As a business journalist and author, Caspar Dohmen has long been concerned with aspects of a sustainable economy. For him, the green and social sides of transformation are mutually dependent. Today, he heads a specialist editorial team for sustainable economic issues at the Berlin media company "Table.Briefings". He produces in-depth programs for DLF and other public broadcasters, works on documentaries for Arte and writes for the independent author publishing house Wagenbach.

Democracy
In 2024, the Basic Law will be 75 years old and the Peaceful Revolution 35 years ago. Two anniversaries that offer the opportunity to spend a year looking at freedom in all its facets. The BMBF Science Year 2024 - Freedom is dedicated to the value and meaning of freedom and examines it in various dimensions and contexts. The Directorate University Culture is participating with the project "Democratic Freedom - Achieving, Experiencing, Preserving". It invites you to join in with a variety of offers and provides a space for an exchange between academia and society.
November 2024 marks the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Yet we are still talking about East and West Germany, about the failure of the East to converge with the West - in economic and political terms as well as in terms of mentality and identity. We ask: Are East and West Germany still valid categories at all and, if so, what do they look like? How desirable is a harmonization?
What expectations have been fulfilled and disappointed since then?
What ideas and wishes are there for the united country in the future?
We discuss with:
Agnès Arp, PhD historian and head of the Oral History Research Center at the University of Erfurt
Jana Hensel, journalist and author (including "Zonenkinder" and "Wer wir sind. Die Erfahrung, ostdeutsch zu sein")
Dr. Hendrik Berth, psychologist and professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the TUD Dresden University of Technology
Dr. Gert Pickel, Chair of Sociology of Religion and Churches, University of Leipzig
Moderation: Dr. Justus H. Ulbricht
- Tue, 12.11.2024 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
- Central Library SLUB, Zellescher Weg 18, Klemperer Hall
- A cooperation of the Directorate University Culture with the SLUB and the FES as part of the Science Year 2024 - Freedom.
After the panel discussion of the same name on November 12, we are now letting poets speak: Does the Wall still stand in many an East or West German head? What is a Wossi and who still likes bananas today?
Kaddi Cutz will host the poetry slam and welcome the following slammers to the stage:
- Max Rademann, Berlin
- Franziska Wilhelm, Leipzig
- Micha Ebeling, Berlin
- Skog Ogvann, Leipzig

What is actually fair? The answer is simple: always treat everyone equally! But stop! How is that supposed to work?
So now it's your turn to ask your questions about justice, fairness and freedom, side by side with Julian Janssen, known from public children's television as "Checker Julian".
On the podium will be:
- Assata Frauhammer, journalist and author of the children's non-fiction book "Voll ungerecht! - On fairness and justice"
- Dr. Romy Simon, Chairof Counselling and Social Relations, Institute of Social Pedagogy, Social Work and Welfare Science, TUD
- Stefanie Gerstenberger, Chair of International Politics, Institute of Political Science, TUD
- JProf.in Dr.in Katharina Kaesling, Juniorprofessorship in Civil Law, Intellectual Property, in particular Patent Law and Legal Issues of AI, Institute of International Law, Intellectual Property and Technology Law, TUD
For families and children from 6 years.
2.12.2024, from 5 p.m.
Kulturpalast, Central Library, Foyer 2nd floor (Schloßstr. 2, 01067 Dresden)
To ensure fairness, the entire show and all your questions will be interpreted live in sign language.
In cooperation with the Dresden Municipal Libraries.
The event is taking place as part of the Science Year 2024 - Freedom in the funding project "Democratic freedom - achieve, experience, preserve".
