Campuscard
The semester ticket in the winter semester 2024-25 (valid from 01.10.2024) is again the Deutschlandticket.
All students who have purchased the ticket (included in the standard semester fee) will receive a digital ticket automatically via the Campuscard portal. It is recommended to transfer the ticket from there to a Wallet app so that it is available offline for ticket inspections.
The Campuscard is TU Dresden’s digital ID card for students. It serves as a personal ID for all enrolled students. They can use it in the SLUB, in Studentenwerk canteens and cafeterias and use the separate, digital semester ticket on buses, trams and trains. On this page, you will find answers to frequently asked questions, information on how it works and information on who to contact should you have further questions or need help.
The Campuscard was introduced as a student ID at the beginning of 2023. We are currently also working on staff ID cards for all TU Dresden employees.
General information
All TU Dresden students (including students at IHI Zittau) will receive a Campuscard after enrolling at TU Dresden. You will be asked to upload a suitable photo for the ID card either when you activate your ZIH university login or via email. Submitting a photo of yourself is mandatory. Some time later, you will receive an email with more information on the receipt of your Campuscard. For more information on the photo, please see the section on “Photo upload and exchange”.
Employees who are not also students will also be able to receive a Campuscard in the form of a staff ID card in the future.
There are no plans to introduce Campuscards for guests or those participating in continuing education courses at TU Dresden nor for students of other institutions of higher education.
When applying for your Campuscard, you can usually choose whether you would like to receive the card by mail (to the address stored in selma) or pick it up. Newly enrolled students with foreign citizenship and foreign university entrance qualification will receive their card on site after their arrival.
Replacement cards (e.g. because the first one was lost) are distributed on site at ServiceCenterStudies. The card may also be sent by mail against payment of a small shipping fee. A corresponding option for delivery can be selected during the application process in the Campuscard portal.
Following the introduction of Campuscards as staff ID cards, employees will receive their cards on site at the ServiceCenterStudies or by in-house mail, should they choose to apply for one.
Please use your ZIH login for the Campuscard portal of the TU Dresden. Here you will find information on the card and you are able to perform the following actions:
- Upload a photo for your first Campuscard (if you have not done so already)
- Block your card and apply for a new one (e.g. if you lost it)
- Unblock a blocked Campuscard
- Find information on the validity of your Campuscard and semester ticket as well as the current status of your card
- View the personal details we have saved for your Campuscard
Only after a suitable photo has been deposited, your Campuscard can be created. The photo you use, has to enable your identification and show you alone in a cropped image from your head to approximately your shoulders. Using a biometric passport photo is not mandatory.
If you upload an unsuitable photo, your card may be rejected and you may need to apply for a replacement card, which could incur costs.
If you do not have a suitable photo at hand, you are also welcome to have one taken at the ServiceCenterStudium service point.
As a rule, you can only upload a photo once. If you urgently need to upload a new photo, please contact the ServiceCenterStudies, including a reason for the exchange.
The Campuscard is valid for up to five years after its first issue, and it will become invalid at the latest upon de-registration from the university. Please refer to your card or the Campuscard portal for the specific expiration date.
New TU Dresden students will generally receive their Campuscard a few weeks before they begin their studies. The Campuscard is valid for use as a payment card in all Studentenwerk Dresden canteens and cafeterias and as a library card in the SLUB (Online registration required) directly after the card has been issued. However, for use as a semester ticket, the Campuscard will only be valid from the start of the new semester (winter semester: October 1; summer semester, April 1).
The Campuscard will lose its validity following de-registration from TU Dresden. It will then no longer be possible to use the card as a semester ticket, library card or payment card in the canteens and cafeterias. Any remaining credit on your card can be transferred at the Studentenwerk Dresden.
All students who have re-registered for the following semester will automatically be mailed a new card at no extra charge before their current card expires. The new card will be valid when the new semester begins.
The Regulations for the Use of the Campuscard for Students at Technische Universität Dresden form the basis for use of the Campuscard for TU Dresden students.
For the issuance and use of your Campuscard, TU Dresden stores and processes the required details regarding your person and your studies. You can read which data is processed in the card management system and which data is printed and stored on your Campuscard in our data protection declaration. In the Campuscard portal, you also have the option of downloading a self-disclosure form about your data.
On the day after your termination of enrollment, your Campuscard becomes invalid. Using it at partner institutions will no longer be possible.
Please contact a service point in one of Studentenwerk's canteens or cafeterias for questions regarding your remaining Mensa credit.
If you would like to remain a user at SLUB after de-registration, please contact SLUB directly.
The validity of the semester ticket also ends with your de-registration. If your de-registration took place at least one month before the end of the semester, you can apply for a proportional refund of ticket costs at the Student Council.
What can my Campuscard do?
You can identify yourself with the Campuscard at TU Dresden events with limited admission, e.g. when taking an exam, at university sporting events, and at internal university elections. Students at the Faculty of Medicine Carl Gustav Carus also use the Campuscard as a hospital ID card for clinical training.
In addition, the Campuscard serves as proof of your student status with offices outside the university, e.g. for reduced admission prices to many cultural institutions.
The Campuscard can thus be used to check student status and reduce waiting times. An official government-issued photo ID must be presented upon request.
You can use the Campuscard to pay at the Studentenwerk Dresden (Student Union) canteens and cafeterias. Upon presentation of your card at the canteen and cafeteria cash registers, your tariff group will automatically be recognized (e.g. student price tariff for meals and drinks). TU Dresden students can still use the current Emeal dining cards for a transitional period until the end of the winter semester 2022/2023. Remaining credit can be transferred from the Emeal card to the Campuscard at the Studentenwerk Service Points. To find more information on using the Campuscard as a payment card, please visit the Studentenwerk Dresden website.
With your Campuscard, you can benefit from all the services at the Saxon State Library – Dresden State and University Library (SLUB). For example, you can borrow books and media, reserve work spaces and equipment in the SLUB-Makerspace, conduct research in the database and register for events and advisory services.
A one-time online registration is required before first use.
Login to SLUB services is possible with your university ID and your SLUB password.
After you finish your studies, your SLUB user status will change and the Campuscard will no longer be valid for use as a library card. However, as a library user, you can then receive a new SLUB card free of charge during your next visit to the SLUB, allowing you to benefit from all the same SLUB services.

Alternatively, you may hand your card in to the ServiceCenterStudies for secure destruction and disposal.
Old cards can also be handed in at the designated collection boxes at the Student Council office, the Academic Affairs Unit of TU Dresden’s Faculty of Medicine or at the student administration at IHI Zittau.
