"Of pigeonholing and biases" – sessions and trainings on unconscious and conscious prejudices
“Bias” refers primarily to cognitive distortions in our perception, so-called pigeonholing or stereotype thinking. This important characteristic of our brain allows us to react quickly and makes us capable of making decisions. However, our unconscious stereotype thinking also has negative effects - it processes the world through positive as well as negative evaluations and can thus easily lead to unconscious discriminatory actions. We will never lose our stereotype thinking, but we can become aware of our imprints. Exactly that already makes a big difference.
In the series, we will introduce to you the unconscious bias and anti-bias approaches. In addition, we will show you ways and ideas how to deal with own prejudices and evaluations and how to think outside the box.
The lecture will give you an overview of the approaches, an insight into the basics of anti-bias work and initial ideas for prejudice-conscious action. The subsequent workshops will shed light on the topic from different perspectives due to different roles. What does prejudice-conscious action mean for me as a team colleague, as a leader or as a teacher?
