General information about the degree program
Hardware meets software – the Information Systems Engineering degree program combines electrical engineering and computer science. This combination (= embedded systems) enables more functions that were previously executed by hardware to be accomplished by microprocessors and software. All areas of modern technology utilize these embedded systems. Why? Because they help save energy, improve comfort and reliability, and reduce risks of accidents. Moreover, embedded systems make completely new functions possible.
Designing and developing these systems requires knowledge in the realms of both software and engineering. That is why this degree program is jointly run by the Faculty of Computer Science and the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
The Information Systems Engineering degree program at TU Dresden merges the content of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs into a prestigious German Diplom degree program and adds consolidated skills and knowledge into the educational mix. We have deliberately decided to stick to the academic degree of Diplom-Ingenieur (Dipl.-Ing.): Engineers with this degree have a better reputation and therefore better career prospects in German industry and economy. The Diplom-Ingenieur degree in engineering is as valuable as a master’s degree, if not more, as verified by the certificate each of our graduates receives. This certificate serves as a known and valued hallmark of quality, optimally preparing them for an industrial or academic career.
