Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Table of contents
Artificial intelligence is increasingly shaping research, teaching and administration - and opening up new possibilities in all disciplines. From machine learning and natural language processing to computer vision and generative AI: various AI technologies help to efficiently analyze large amounts of data, automate processes and gain new insights. At the same time, ethical issues, data quality and transparency are essential aspects of dealing with AI that need to be critically reflected upon. Find out here what training and consulting opportunities are available to you at TU Dresden and partner institutions.
An information event on the AI regulation will take place on 14.04.2025 from 12:30 - 14:30 o´clock as a video conference, to which employees and students are cordially invited.
Experts will shed light on the AI Regulation and its impact on research, teaching and administration at TU Dresden.
- "Use of AI at universities and research institutions - requirements and practical implementation of the AI Regulation"
Mr. RA Stefan Hessel, LL.M. Salary Partner Head of Digital Business, Reusch Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH - "The use of AI tools for any research purposes and research on AI systems - obligations arising from the AI Regulation and practical consequences"
Prof. Anne Lauber-Rönsberg, TU Dresden - "Legal framework and critical considerations on the use of AI in higher education"
Dr. Tatiana Shulga-Morskaya, TU Dresden[H1]
The lectures will be recorded and will be available for 30 days after the event
Offers according to target groups
For employees of TU Dresden
- Self-learning offer: AI Act: Introduction and sensitization for university staff (GER)
Since February 2025, Article 4 of the AI Act requires employers to provide training on the regulation of AI. The AI Act obliges employers to ensure, to the best of their knowledge and belief, that their own staff have a sufficient level of AI competence to minimize risks when using AI.
In this context, the e-learning course from Mittweida University of Applied Sciences and HTWK Leipzig is available on OPAL for employees of TU Dresden. The course provides university employees with a basic introduction to the EU AI Act, the European regulation on the regulation of artificial intelligence. The aim is to create awareness of the legal framework conditions and promote confidence in dealing with AI systems. - Self-learning offer (GER): AI in the Saxon administration: awareness training in accordance with the AI Act
The e-learning of the Meißen University of Applied Sciences and Training Center (HSF) Meißen also serves to fulfil the employer obligation under the AI Act. In this interactive e-learning course, the basics of AI and its practical relevance in public administration are taught and the legal framework for its use is presented.
The e-learning is available on the digital learning platform Learning World of the HSF Meißen in the SID Learning Worlds.
TU Dresden recognizes the potential, but also the challenges that AI brings with it. It provides support by providing information on the use of AI and promotes discussion on the classification of risks.
If you need advice or have questions about data protection - including when dealing with AI systems - the Data Protection Officer is the first point of contact.
The AI Campus is a learning platform for artificial intelligence that offers free online courses, videos and podcasts to strengthen AI skills. The platform is aimed at anyone interested in AI and offers content for both beginners and advanced learners. The learning opportunities cover a broad spectrum, from basic AI concepts to specific applications such as AI in medicine or education.
With the aim of promoting an AI-competent society, the AI Campus offers a wide range of learning opportunities that enable users to understand, critically evaluate and actively shape AI.
For Lecturers
The Center for Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching (ZiLL) provides information on the didactic use of AI and its possibilities for preparing teaching materials, learning opportunities with AI and best practices for teachers.
Questions about the use of AI in examinations can be answered by the Vice-Rectorate Education.
The Writing Center of the TUD is the place to go for all questions concerning the use of AI when writing scientific papers during your studies.
The series of events organized by HD Sachsen takes up various topics and perspectives and offers participants the opportunity to gain an overview of current opportunities and challenges in dealing with generative AI.
The target groups are teachers and students from all departments and types of universities, (university) didacticians and teaching support staff.
For Researchers
The Transfer and Service Center of ScaDS.AI advises on the topics of AI, data analytics, big data and high-performance computing in cooperation with the ZIH. It supports researchers and students in the application of available resources for their field of research and conducts training courses to provide technical and methodological training on relevant aspects of AI such as machine learning, distributed computing and data analysis.
The Service Center Research Data supports researchers and students at TU Dresden and the DRESDEN-concept institutions with individual challenges in dealing with research data. This is a cooperation between TU Dresden and SLUB.
As part of the National High-Performance Computing (NHR), the ZIH's high-performance computers are available free of charge to scientists at German universities if their application is approved. To train users and applicants, the ZIH, together with ScaDS.AI, offers further education and training courses on high-performance computing (HPC).
