Recovery Method
The restoration using the graphical tool provides more clarity and is more user-friendly. It is assumed to use Java. The command line tool offers extensive possibilities (and to our experience rarely makes mistakes), does not require Java, and is the appropriate method for the administrator with command-line experience.
- Restore using the graphic tool (GUI)
- Restore using the Command line tool
Tips for restore of data in central backup service
- In an emergency, your data can be recovered on another machine of the same operating system.
- Avoid multiple simultaneous restoration operations on a client. These processes would only interfere with each other.
- Plan sufficient time for the recovery process. Very large file systems need substantial recovery time.
- To start the recovery process of your data you need a well-functioning operating system (of the same platform as the back up). The TSM client software needs to be the same version as the one when the back up was created. Furthermore, enough memory storage space needs to be available for the restored data.
- A full data recovery is only possible as "root" or "admin". Non-privileged user can rewrite their own data area.
- For the recovery, the TSM password of the node-name you want to restore is needed. In case you encrypted your data, the decryption password has to be provided. You are the only person to know this decryption password, the ZIH does not have any copy of the password. Should you have lost this password or only saved it on the malfunctioning computer, there is unfortunately no possibilty to restore the data.
Tips for data in Central File Service Areas
For fairly recent data in Home/Project range of high-performance computers, in the central Home, or in shared group drives, there is a optional way for the restoration: respective .snapshot directories that are created by NAS filter.
As the user, you can restore the data into your workspace (copy). For exact details, see here.
