Review of the last years
Back in 2018, the IZS began its accompanying research and policy advice on the structural policy process in the course of the coal phase-out and energy transition in Lusatia in Saxony and Brandenburg, which was gaining momentum at the time. In close cooperation with the two state governments and with funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the project focused on two areas: 1) Multi-level and cross-state coordination, governance and participation, 2) Spatial relevance of structural change, overall spatial planning and vision development.

In addition to scientific publications, various policy advice products have been produced. These are a series of policy briefs based on participant observation and confidential consultations with decision-makers at state and municipal level. A total of 13 policy briefs and handouts are available, which focus on cross-state cooperation, the design of citizen participation, governance structures in the multi-level system and the process design of the two steering formats in Saxony (Regional Monitoring Committee) and Brandenburg (workshop procedure).
