TriLand - Cross-border transformation center
A new project at the IZS, funded as part of the EU cooperation program INTERREG Poland-Saxony 2021-2027, is now focusing on German-Polish cooperation on regional transformation in the wake of the coal phase-out and energy transition.
The Saxon-Polish border region is undergoing a profound transformation process. Climate change and environmental changes, the energy transition and the foreseeable phase-out of coal mining, an ageing population and emigration, especially of well-educated groups of the working population, social change, digitalization and a changing world of work are all overlapping and complex challenges.
The intensification of cross-border cooperation within the framework of the project should help to use the experience on both sides of the border to develop best practices and avoid repeating past mistakes. The objectives of the project are 1. to build the capacity of decision-makers to cope with the current and future challenges of the regional transformation process in terms of demography, labor market, economy, environment and climate change as well as natural and cultural heritage, 2. to use and link knowledge on the Polish and German side and between the sectors (politics, administration, business, civil society, science), 3. to build and establish a platform for better horizontal (German-Polish) and vertical (between sectors and administrative levels) coordination.
Project partners: ZKlaster - Zgorzelec Cluster for the Development of Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Efficiency; Remembrance, Education, Culture Foundation
