What should be saved to the central backup system?

•     Configuration data
•     Log file (if necessary, set a shorter storage time)
•     User data
•     Data that is hard to obtain

What should not be saved to the central backup system?

•     Complete operating system,
  better: => use the operating system's own security mechanisms.
•     Unstructured collection of many small files
  better: => summarize the most useful files before backup.
•     Data that does not change and should be stored long-term
  better: => use our archive-service.

Further Recommendations

• when possible, reduce file number by summarizing data in Tar-Archive or zip files, etc.
• Save no more than 1-5 million files under a node name/file system. More backup streams to different bands is more advantageous. Saving and using several different logical node names can achieve this.
