Committees and Responsibilities
Gender equality has been firmly established as a duty of university management. As part of the division of labor on this level, the Vice-Rector for University Development has been made responsible for equality opportunity matters and fulfills this duty in close collaboration with the Central Officer for the Protection of Women’s Rights and Equal Opportunities at TU Dresden as well as Unit 9.3 Diversity Management. The Unit Diversity Management is responsible for operative management and coordination tasks.
On the decentralized scale, there are Equal Opportunities Officers at both School and Faculty level as well as in several Central Academic Units (CAUs) who take on these responsibilities in addition to their normal functions. The Equal Opportunities Officers at these levels are voting members on the Faculty Boards and advisory members in the appointment committees and other bodies. They also advise on career paths and balancing one’s studies/career with family.
Since 2004, the Equal Opportunities Officer working group has served to advise Equal Opportunities Officers from Schools, Faculties and CAUs on tasks and measures at the central level. They also organize dialog on the subject of equal opportunities at the university and coordinate the implementation the equal opportunities mandate at the School and Faculty level.
The Senate Commission on Equality and Diversity Management, which was established by the Senate in 2010, is tasked with the preparatory discussion of resolutions of the University Executive Board and the Senate on measures, reports and evaluations regarding equality and diversity and it is the central committee for equal opportunity at TU Dresden. The Equal Opportunity Advisory Board was set up in 2011 to support and assist the implementation and conceptual development of the measures outlined in the Equality Concept.
