Special funds inclusion
About the special funds
Since 2015, the Saxon State Ministry of Science and the Arts (SMWK) has allocated several million euros as an earmarked additional budget to finance inclusion measures at universities in Saxony.
The Saxon state government's action plan for the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2016) stipulates the continuous continuation of this funding of over one million euros per year. The special funds are also included in the current 2023/2024 double budget, adopted in December 2022.
Use of funds
The measures and projects approved to date are aimed at employees, students and prospective students and represent important building blocks for promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities and chronic illnesses at TU Dresden. These include
- Measures to improve mobility
- The expansion of individual service and support offers
- Measures to expand barrier-free working and study conditions
- Training and awareness-raising programs for university members on the topic of inclusion
- Development and implementation of technological solutions to support students and employees with disabilities
- Research projects to explore best practices in the field of inclusive education and working environments
TU Dresden's approach
In a broad participation process, the SG Diversity Management always informed the university-wide public about the receipt of the special funds and called on them to describe their concrete proposals for measures and projects in detail.
In addition to the targeted implementation of TU Dresden's action plan for the implementation of the UN CRPD, other measures are also requested that are in line with the objectives of the UN CRPD and the recommendations of the German Rectors' Conference 2009 "A University for All". Additional criteria include proof of the sustainability of the projects and measures and, if applicable, a detailed implementation concept.
The applications submitted are discussed and evaluated jointly by the Inclusion Advisory Board concerning the defined criteria and submitted to the University Executive Board. The applications approved and funded by the university management are then coordinated by Unit 9.3 Diversity Management and the implementation of the measures is monitored.
In 2016, the university management decided to act with foresight and approved central measures in advance for further years, which are to be implemented at TU Dresden regardless of any incoming funding from the SMWK, but are still eligible for funding and invoicing in the event of funding.
