Program for the event
11 am – Presentation of the master's program of the Department of Hydroscience
Dean of Studies Prof. Stefan Stolte presents the master's program of the Department of Hydroscience – Abfallwirtschaft und Altlasten, Hydrobiologie, Hydrologie, Wasserwirtschaft as well as Hydro Science and Engineering – followed by the opportunity to talk to students (until 1 pm)
Presentation language: German (questions in english possible)

12 pm – Presentation of the master's program Water Security and Global Change
The session will provide an overview of the newly established Joint Master Program in Water Security and Global Change, a collaboration between TU Dresden, RWTH Aachen, and IITM in Chennai, India. This innovative study program is tailored to address the critical intersection of water resources, global environmental shifts, and societal impacts. Its primary goal is to empower students with a holistic understanding of the complex dynamics shaping our water landscape.
Through a multidisciplinary approach, students will gain the knowledge, skills, and ethical awareness needed to address the urgent challenges of water security in our rapidly changing world. As environmental changes accelerate, the demand for innovative solutions and resilient policies becomes increasingly pressing. Graduates of this program will emerge well-equipped to take on key roles in shaping sustainable water policies, implementing transformative solutions, and fostering resilience in the face of evolving climates and growing water-related concerns. We extend a warm invitation to passionate individuals from Environmental and Engineering backgrounds to apply and join us in crafting a more secure and equitable water future for all.

Presentation of the Department
The study, extraction, distribution and purification of water as a food and resource is one of the most fundamental technical and social achievements. The study of hydrosciences will provide you with the scientific and engineering knowledge and practical skills to work in this field. This includes the description of water and material flows, the determination of physical, chemical and biological components in hydrosystems, and the engineering and technical mastery of water extraction, water use, water treatment and wastewater treatment.
For more than 25 years, the "Institute for Waste Management and Closed Substance Cycle Waste Management" at the TU Dresden has been training experts who deal professionally, technically, strategically and scientifically with current and future issues concerning environmental protection and climate change. This short video gives a practical insight into the master's program "Waste Management and Contaminated Sites".
How are our water resources changing as a result of climate change, and what can we do to manage events like floods and droughts? In the master's program Hydrologie, you will learn how to work on these future issues and how to measure, model, and manage water resources.
What does waste actually consist of? The students of the master's program Abfallwirtschaft und Altlasten at the TU Dresden sort residual waste and analyze it in the laboratory to characterize its properties and to assess its behavior in waste treatment plants. The treatment of pollutants that have already entered the environment (contaminated sites) is also addressed.

Recycling raft
Felix Dobritz and Dr. Roman Maletz from the Institute of Waste Management and Circular Economy at TU Dresden spent almost three years working on their research raft. They wanted to show that plastic waste in particular is not as bad as its reputation, but can be processed in a variety of ways. (Video language: German)
"Good question" waste This "good question" is all about waste. How can we reduce it? What challenges do we face when it comes to recycling? And why does washing produce microplastics? (Video language: German)
Flocculation experiment
Teaching example of the Institute of Water Chemistry, video tutorial of a laboratory experiment.

Link area
Studying is more than a timetable, lecture hall and books. Therefore, we have compiled a few more useful links. Whether in the lecture hall center, in the lab or in the cafeteria; soon you will know your way around here and then also find the time to discover and enjoy Dresden and its surroundings for yourself.
