Equal Opportunities
Equal opportunities policy is a core task and a major challenge for every university. In order to master future tasks and to secure prospective performance, it is important – quoting the German Council of Science and Humanities – to “comprehensively realize all of society’s full potential and to allow all groups represented in a society a fair chance at participation in the scientific system.” TU Dresden is committed to being an equitable university and has firmly enshrined this aim in its mission statement and university institution. TU Dresden takes the view that gender equality is closely connected to the concept of a family-friendly university, moving away from the historically conventional division of responsibilities between women and men by establishing a work-life-balance for both, which makes it possible to reconcile working life with family plans.
In recent years, TU Dresden has stepped up measures to meet the goal of an equitable and family-friendly university. In 2018, the "Equality Concept 2018" of TU Dresden was updated in a far-reaching participation process. Here you can download the Gender Equality concept 2018 endorsed by the Rectorate. Research findings from the project “Gendered University – Gender Hierarchies at TU Dresden” formed a key basis for the content of the work. In addition, results of an external evaluation of the equality work of TU Dresden from March 2018 were taken into account. Moreover, a university-wide symposium titled “Thinking ahead – equality at TU Dresden” took place in June 2018.
The Gender Equality Commission works together with the central Equal Opportunities Officer and the Officer for the Protection of Women's Rights, decentralized stakeholders and Unit 9.3 Diversity Management to ensure the equality of women and men at the university.
